The Learn to Metal detect booth had 40 children and adults try their hand at metal detecting for three coins (Dollar and fifty cent coins) and a token for one of the donated gifts. FMDAC donated a Bounty Hunter Junior to SVDB and we provided each person a ticket and those that were 12 and under were eligible for the detector drawing that we held on Sunday afternoon. SVDB also had a drawing for one Silver Dollar on Saturday evening. Both the Detector and Silver Dollar went to someone under the age of 12. We saw a lot of excitement by those that tried their hand at finding the targets all the comments were very positive. SVDB also gained one new membership on Sunday. The final outcome of the funds raiser was $97 dollars for SVDB, plus the membership fee, and lots of community good will for the hobby.
The Donations came from:

Five members of the SVDB club- Lee Wiese, Bob Maytum, Al Ezell, Ken Marcum and me- put in a combined 10 hours searching for evidence for the Davis Police Department. Suspects in a robbery had tossed a small caliber handgun from the window of a car driving east on Interstate 80 near the State 113 off ramp. We covered a triangular shaped area approximately 100 yards long by 20 yards wide at the narrow end and 40 to 50 yards wide at the wide end.
Lee divided the search area with flag markers and we began about 10 a.m., working N-S passes between the freeway and the 113 transition road. Even in the presence of abundant "other" targets (I was amazed at how much junk "we" collectively toss from moving cars onto our highways) I thought we would have a successful search - however, such was not the case, as after nearly two hours of searching we came up empty handed. Just want to let everyone know how proud I am of this club. When I joined the club in the beginning of the year I was just looking for some people who shared the same interest as I, and that was going out and doing a little metal detecting. What I got was much more then what I had expected. When I read that the club had helped others find their lost rings and other momentum, and was able to recover it as well I was amazed. Well, the very next month I thought what the heck, so I addressed the club at our meeting and asked if anyone would be interested in helping me search. This search was very personal to me and I was very pleased to see just how many people showed interest. Due to poor weather condition, and other things it took us three months before we were able to go out to the site. We finally got some nice weather and was able to go out for a little hunt, and I think we all had a great time. At this time I would like to give a Special Thank You for all fifteen who gave up part of their weekend and took the time to come out in the heat. So a Big Thanks to John D, Lee W, Pete P, Don C, Ivan M, Don D, Bob M, Earl F, Ray G, John H, Bob V, Rudy R, Jim H, and Kyle M. Also, I want to say THANKS to All who volunteered including those that were not able to make it as you are the ones who makes a difference. Without your support and involvement this club would not be the club it is today, and I'm proud to say that I am a member of the Sacramento Valley Detecting Buffs!!
Sincerely,
Don J.
