Cost of facility - we will discuss at the next meeting

Today I received the annual meeting room renewal paper work from the County. For the first time they will begin charging us a monthly meeting room fee of $50 / hour, 2 hr minimum. We meet for approximately 3 hours so we are looking at $150.00 per month to continue using the Community Room at Don Julio. There are also new requirements for a cleaning deposit ($200.00) and liability insurance. Your Board of Directors will have an opportunity to review and discuss the County's requirements before the September meeting and will report to you at that time.
John Duffy

John's announcement underscores the need for the club to consider other possible meeting locations.
If you know of other potential sites for our club meeting, please bring your ideas to the next
general meeting, Sept. 2, 2010.

July Beach Hunt - Ring Return

Lee Wiese organized a beach hunt in Santa Cruz on July 25th and 26th (Sunday and Monday). It was a great success. Nice work, Lee! Photos on the Photos page.

Ring Returned from the Santa Cruz Beach Outing - Sacramento Bee News Story

Last week, Jim Hallett sent Lee two Craigslist ads about a lost Tungsten wedding ring in Santa Cruz on the Saturday before our SVDB Beach outing. Well, Lee contacted the individual by using Craigslist and found out the individual (Spencer) was from So. Sacramento and had been to Santa Cruz for the weekend. He lost the ring in the surf while playing with one of his children.

Along came Lee on Monday morning at low tide and found the ring. All rewards were declined.

On-the-Spot short-notice mini-hunts:

As mentioned in the January meeting, and in the January newsletter, some of us want to link up with other members for short-notice, spur-of-the-moment hunts to off-beat locations. This is perfect for small groups of 2 or 3 people.

A Meet-Up site was created for this purpose. Check it out. Go to On-the-Spot Metal Detecting if you want to participate. Check out the Messages page for bulletins from other members. You must be a SVDB member to join, and it's free.
